The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced this morning (Thursday) that Kneeland died of a "self-inflicted gunshot wound".
"We're talking to the girl, she's trying to call an agent, so we're trying to call her first, but he's armed and has a history of mental illness, and her quote was, 'He's going to end it all,'" the dispatcher said in audio obtained by TMZ.

Kneeland is said to have sent a "goodbye" message to his family.

The dispatcher later said no one was in the apartment. Another said a general called NFL police in Plano, Texas.
In a statement Thursday, Texas DPS said that at 10:33 p.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation.on Wednesday, but the vehicle did not stop and an unsuccessful pursuit ensued.
They later found the vehicle abandoned, but with crash marks, a "trooper plane" and the Frisco Police Department found him dead on his knees from a gunshot wound.
The Frisco Police Department said they received information that the knee had "suicidal thoughts" and found him at 1:31 A.M.
According to the release, the Collin County Medical Examiner's Office will officially determine the cause of death.
The Cowboys announced Kneeland's death Thursday morning.
The team selected him in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft and he has appeared in 18 games with four starts over the past two seasons.
He's been sacked once this season and scored in Arizona's loss to Dallas on Monday.
"It is with great sadness that the Dallas Cowboys announce the tragic passing of Marshawn Niland this morning. Marshawn was a dear friend and member of our organization," Dallas said in a statement.
Kneeland's agent, Jon Perzley, released a heartfelt statement about his former client.
"I watched him fight as a promising kid in western Michigan with dreams of becoming a respectable professional for the Colled Cowboys, according to the NFL Network.
“My heart aches for his family, his teammates, and everyone who loved him, and I hope they feel the support of the entire football community during this unimaginable time. I ask that you please give his loved ones the privacy and compassion they need as they grieve this tremendous loss.”
