Council officials visited the Pemberlokeshire area after reports of flu cases.

A highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry was identified at a site near Milford Haven.

After that, the main metropolitan avenue of Wales was rebuilt and the Chord-Approved Complex was completed.

Officers from Pembrokeshire County Council's Public Protection Department will visit addresses within the 3km buffer zone around the site to identify locations where poultry and/or other birds are kept in captivity and provide information on the restrictions currently in place to prevent the spread of disease.

Additionally, local authorities are putting up traffic signs to help clarify where these zones begin and end, which will remain in effect until restrictions are lifted.

Council staff are working in support of veterinary colleagues from animal and plant health authorities who are managing the response to the incident.

A map showing the extent of the zones and applicable restrictions can be viewed on the Welsh Government website: Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire Avian Influenza Protection and Surveillance Areas Declaration: 30 October 2025 |WALESGOV

Bird keepers have been asked to be vigilant and maintain the highest level of biosecurity.

This will help farmers protect their birds from the risk of infection and prevent further spread of disease.

According to the National Poultry Registry, starting October 1, 2024, all poultry farmers, regardless of flock size, will be required to officially register their birds.

You must register within a month to keep chickens or other captive birds anywhere in Wales.

You do not need to register the bird if it is completely free from domestic pests such as brut, smut or other web-strains.

By registering their birds, keepers will ensure they receive important updates such as information on local avian disease outbreaks and biosecurity rules to protect their flocks.

Keepers are required to provide information including their contact information, where the birds are kept and information about the birds (species, numbers and what they are kept).

UK health authorities advise that the risk to public health is very low and very low with avian diseases they promise to buy.
