Huawei just introduced the P50 series. During the event, the company also shared another exciting news: an upgrade program for older devices is coming. Mate, P, Nova, and Enjoy smartphone owners can upgrade their internal storage for a fee of CNY 369 (around €48) to get space for HarmonyOS without risking data loss.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro
Primarily there are the Mate 9, Mate 10, Mate 20, and Mate 30 series, as well as the P10, P20, and P30. However, the minor versions are excluded from the promotion. Phones will get more storage, i.e. 64GB phones will be upgraded to 128GB. 128GB models will be converted to 256GB and devices with 256GB will get 512GB of storage.
Huawei phones from the nova 2s announced in December 2017 to the latest nova 7 SE 5G can start the upgrade this year. Also, according to Chinese sources, most Honor flagships of recent years are eligible for upgrade. But there is still no official statement from Huawei.
Upgrading memory seems like a complicated task, but it’s also a great way to extend the life of smartphones. From an environmental and customer perspective, Huawei can only be praised for this option. The program is currently only available in China and can be expanded to overseas markets if the response is appropriate.
