Firmware Updates: Canon Brings C-Log 3 to EOS R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III

With the update, the EOS R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III cameras receive the Canon Log 3 (C-Log 3) Professional Video Profile, which expands dynamic range and provides more options for color grading in post-production. In addition to the C-Log 3, firmware updates for all three cameras allow dual card recording to two memory cards. The EOS R5 (which already received a C-Log 3 with a previous update) is also compatible with the CN-E18-80mm T4.4 L IS KAS S and CN-E70-200mm T4.4 L IS KAS S cine servo lenses added. Moreover, after the update, EOS R5 can record on the Atomos Ninja V+ external recorder in “5K Crop ProRes RAW”.

New Firmware for Canon Professional Cameras

Canon today announced more firmware updates for the EOS R5*, EOS R6 (firmware v1.4) and EOS-1D X Mark III (firmware v1.5). The introduction of the new firmware is based on instant feedback from users and enables advanced video functionality of the EOS R5, EOS R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III cameras. Firmware updates for the EOS-1D X Mark III and EOS R5 also support CFexpress-VPG400 memory cards, which should guarantee a write speed of 400MB/s for more reliable 8K recording.

Cinematic video content
As already the case with the EOS R5, due to high demand, the new firmware now brings Canon Log 3 (C-Log 3) to the EOS R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III.

Canon’s popular Log 3 expands the dynamic range and offers more color space options. Rich and high-quality video clips are in no way inferior to those of movie cameras from Hollywood. The logarithmic gamma curve also increases the compatibility of the three models with the cinema production workflow and makes it easier to adjust the color of recordings made with Canon Cinema EOS series cameras.

Simplified workflow
In addition to the C-Log 3, firmware updates allow dual card logging on all three cameras. Users can now record on two memory cards at the same time. This process ensures that no more recordings are lost if the memory card is defective. **

Firmware updates for the EOS-1D X Mark III and EOS R5 also support CFexpress VPG400 memory cards, which in turn ensure a write speed of 400MB/s for more reliable recording. This is especially true when shooting in 8K or RAW.

Compatibility with EOS Cinema مجموعة products
EOS R5 compatibility with Cine Servo Lenses CN-E18-80mm T4.4 L IS KAS S and CN-E70-200mm T4.4 L IS KAS S is also now completed by a firmware update. With the new firmware, filmmakers can control the camera’s focus, exposure, zoom and start recordings by pressing the record button on the lenses.

This compatibility also extends to the Canon EOS Utility and Camera Connect software, so the EOS R5 can be seamlessly integrated into any workflow.

The new Canon EOS R5 firmware enables external recording in 5K ProRes RAW cropping when connected to an Atomos Ninja V recorder. By connecting to Atomos Ninja V+ recorders, it is also possible to record in 8K ProRes RAW. Thus, the new firmware provides a compact and affordable camera system with unparalleled image quality.

In combination with the EOS R5, the Atomos Ninja V + Recorder is able to shoot 8K recordings at 30 frames per second. With these professional recording formats, white balance and ISO value can also be changed smoothly during processing.
