Assassins, Minecraft or Laura Croft. There is a flood of movies and series based on video games

Finally, the time is approaching when popular video game brands will receive decent movie or TV adaptations. In the years to come, numerous films and series based on well-known licenses will be produced for us – and we will have to guarantee their quality with renowned creators. Random? Chernobyl was created by Craig Machine, starring Tom Holland or Point Pascal or Chad Stohelski, Action Stone director John Wick.

Thanks to similar names, video game adaptations can finally enhance their reputation. So far, the games have been slightly above average in terms of games (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), but they usually fall into a dull gray (Tomb Rider), sometimes even in total trouble (Dungeon Siege).

Above all, it says that the reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes website worked better Pokemon: Detective Pikachu (68 progress) a Hedgehog Sonic (63 percent). The most lucrative game adaptation so far is Warcraft (9 439 million), which benefits from a popular name and attractive fantasy environment, but it does not even offer any unique entertainment.

However, the well-known names involved may indicate a better change. The last thing they talked about was Chad Staholski, who will film an adaptation of the hit play Ghost of Sushima last summer, which is an action adventure set in thirteenth-century Japan. These games have sold over six million copies, and the unseen backgrounds form an excellent basis for the spectacular display behind Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions.

Sony is keen to turn video games on the screen. Based on the sequel to the action adventure of the same name, its premiere is set to be released on February 11, 2022. The main character Nathan Drake will play the already mentioned Tom Holland (Spider-Man), who will be followed by Mark Wallberg or Antonio Banderas.

The film has a very complex development, beginning production in 2008, with Wallberg originally set to play the lead role. Seven directors took turns with him, and eventually this choice fell on Ruben Fleischer, for example, who has the comic book Venom Behind him.

Another series based on The Lost of Ace, Sony’s Another Ace, attracts attention. On the topic of survival, kidnapper Joel Teenager Ellie had to be transferred across the Apocalyptic America in the future, and the game was released in the second half. However, this series is based on the first place. He is followed by Craig Machin, Joel as Pontifical Pascal (Mandalorian) and Ellia as Bella Ramsay (Game of Thrones). We do not yet know the release date.

Last for us

Third, Sony: Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, based on the horror series of video games, is set to release this September. The film returns to the first two episodes and takes place in 1998. The main character is Gaya Scotlario, for example, known from the last Pirates of the Caribbean.

The premiere of the action movie Mortal Gombat, presented by HBO Max on April 16, is very close (the date of the Czech premiere is not yet known). It is a sequel to a series of films from the 1990s, with the first film since 1995, in one of his roles with Christopher Lambert, having an almost cult status. The films are based on a series of video game fighters, the first of which was released in 1992 and (so far) two years ago.

The only film with a specific premiere date was the Hedgehog Sonic series, which became the sixth highest grossing film of the last year (approximately $ 320 million, you can see it on HBO GO). The second will be released on April 8, 2022.

At the beginning of next year, we will finally see a series based on the science fiction game Hollow, which takes place in the 26th century and focuses on humanity’s struggle against the alien race. The film stars Pablo Schreiber (The Wire) and Natasha McLean (California) in the lead roles, and will be one of the flagship projects of the recently launched streaming service Paramount +.

Upcoming series based on Fallout, a post-apocalyptic video game brand with the support of Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, known as the creators of West World, are also promising. It is set to appear on Amazon Prime Video.

There are many other pictures, but in general we do not know more details about them. A potential blockbuster could be a movie based on the popular action series Call of Duty, which has sold over 300 million copies. The film is produced by another popular action brand, Gears of War. The combination of Assassin’s Creed and Netflix producing a series based on the popular killer video game also looks promising.

The film is directed by Peter Solet and is based on Minkraft, which was scheduled to be screened in 2022, but due to an epidemic, the release was postponed indefinitely. The film is based on the sequel to Tomb Raider, a sequel to the Japanese hit metal Gear Solid, the comic book event Borderlands or starring Laura Croft. We don’t have to worry about the size of the video game adaptations, maybe they have quality.
