The number of new hospitalizations rose from 30 at the end of June to more than 300 this week.

The numbers speak for themselves. New hospital admissions due to Covid-19 in Occitanie have doubled by more than ten in less than a month, the regional health agency (ARS) said on Saturday, launching an “emergency appeal to the population” to “slow the pace of the epidemic”.

New hospitalizations went from 30 at the end of June to more than 300 this week, and admissions in intensive care and intensive care have risen from less than 10 to more than 90 in the same period, the ARS outlines in a press release.

On Saturday, more than 130 people were hospitalized in intensive care and intensive care in Occitanie “with severe stress in the departments of Pyrenees-Orientales, Herault, Audi and Haute-Garonne”.

ARS continues: “The proportion of Covid patients in intensive care is now over 21% while our area, which is very touristy, is seeing very strong non-Covid activity in intensive care.”

Occitanie currently has just over 1,600 intensive care and critical care beds. On the other hand, the incidence was approximately 420 cases per 100,000 residents (+41% in one week), “more than eight times the alert threshold”.

The counties most affected, Herault and Pyrenees Orientales, number about 600. In this context, the Community Rehabilitation Alliance is calling on residents to “exercise caution” and respect the gestures of the barrier.
