The Federal Automobile Transport Authority (KBA) has launched an investigation against US automaker Tesla. It is related to the electronic path-changing function of the so-called “autopilot”, which Tesla offers as an accessory for some of its models.

This was reported by “Bild am Sonntag” (PAMS). A spokesman for the KBA told “PAMS”: The Federal Transport Authority is investigating the mentioned facts. Some Tesla cars have an electronic lane change function that may not be allowed in Europe.” Tests are not yet complete.

According to Tesla’s description, while driving on the highway, the lane change assistant must “put the vehicle in the optimal lane to prepare it for intersections and exits and for passing slower vehicles.”

The KBA is in contact with both the manufacturer and the Dutch vehicle registration authority RDW. RDW is responsible for blanket approval of the vehicle for Tesla that is valid in the EU. The American manufacturer left BamS’ request unanswered.
