In honor of Pride Month in June, fast food giant McDonald’s is serving up rainbow fries. The message is valid and looks good too – but does it taste good?

It won’t be long before Pride Month is upon us! This has prompted McDonald’s Germany, among others, to celebrate diversity and diversity.

As the American company announced, since Monday (May 23) a new and colorful product has appeared in addition to the usual french fries: “Rainbow Sticks”.

With Pride Month starting in June, customers should be able to try the colorful fries from May 23 to June 5. So if you don’t just want to eat french fries, you can order colorful vegetable sticks made with sweet potatoes, parsnips, and beetroot in the future.

Sticks of veggies may seem healthy, but it’s questionable whether stalks are actually any healthier than golden-yellow french fries.

Among the hundreds of comments, there are both positive and critical statements regarding the taste of the new French fries. And under McDonald’s Facebook post, some people commented and criticized the taste of vegetable sticks.

  • “Unfortunately, we didn’t like them either. Pity!”
  • “Unfortunately not a good innovation. I would have preferred to invest 3.49 euros in large french fries.”

Despite the seemingly dubious taste of vegetable potatoes, the message behind the new product remains the same: variety.

“McDonald’s has always championed equal opportunity and fairness. Discrimination – in any form – has no place with us,” says Markus Weiss, a spokesperson for McDonald’s Germany.

He continues, “As a company and part of an open community, it is important for us to convey these values ​​to the outside world – and of course celebrate the successes already made in this field with the LGBTQ+ community.”

CSD in Cologne: McDonald’s becomes the main sponsor

But McDonald’s does not just want to set an example with its “rainbow sticks”: this year the company is one of the main sponsors of the Christopher Street Day festival in Cologne.

And the CSD Match in Berlin on July 23, McDonald’s will receive support from successful drag queen Candy Crash. On Wednesday (May 25) you will be behind the counter in the Berlin Mall and sell “rainbow sticks”.
