Data protection scandal: US prosecutors targeted Zuckerberg

In the wake of the Cambridge Analytica data protection scandal, US investigators have personally targeted Mark Zuckerberg, the head of Facebook. Washington Attorney General Carl Racine added Zuckerberg to his 2018 lawsuit against Facebook.

Racine said ongoing investigations showed the founder was involved in decisions about Cambridge Analytica.

The Washington attorney general is accusing Facebook, among other things, of incorrectly informing users about the disclosure of their data. A Facebook spokesperson denied the allegations. He told the Wall Street Journal yesterday that this evidence is baseless against both the company and Zuckerberg.

Access data from millions of users

In the case of Cambridge Analytica, an analytics company was able to access some data from millions of Facebook users without them even realizing it. The company published a survey in which some Facebook users participated.

But thanks to the privacy settings at the time, she was also able to access some information from her Facebook friends. When this became known, Facebook came under fire and praised the improvement in data protection.
