In this year’s e-Government competition, BearingPoint and Cisco are looking for the best government digitization and modernization projects. Innovative projects are awarded in six categories. The “Sustainability through Digitalization” category is a new category in the 21st eGovernment Competition. Applications can be submitted until May 31, 2022.
BearingPoint, a management and technology consulting firm, along with leading technology company Cisco, invite you to this year’s 2022 eGovernment 21 competition.
John Appel, Head of Government and Public Sector at BearingPoint: “With its Dare Forward coalition agreement, the Traffic Light Government has committed to accelerating digitization. This is also urgently needed to improve the still insufficient digitization and modernize Germany as a business location. Our competition is to make innovative digitization projects visible in management, thus inspiring other stakeholders to come up with innovative solutions.A new feature of this year’s competition is the category “Sustainability through Digitalization” – a topic that is becoming increasingly important in relation to climate protection and has enormous development potential, particularly in the field of digitization.
Apply now until May 31, 2022
The e-Government competition recognizes projects that promote the digitization and modernization of administration in an exemplary manner and focus on the benefits to citizens. Public organizations from federal, state and local governments as well as social security institutions and health care institutions are invited to submit their sustainable and innovative concepts and projects for management modernization by the application deadline of May 31, 2022.

An independent external panel of experts will select three finalists from each category. They will have the opportunity to showcase their projects on the virtual finalist days on July 5th and 6th, 2022 and then on the competition website. The winners will be honored at an award ceremony as part of the Ministerial Conference in September in Berlin.
eGovernment Competition 2022: Users and Benefits at the fore – New Category
Administrative services can only be successful if they meet the needs of users. This year, the competition is once again focusing on projects that are highly user- and feature-oriented. There is also a new category in the competition. The “Sustainability through Digitalization” category aims to highlight positive examples from current development on the topic of “IT for Green Environment” or to present solutions and highlight the potential to accelerate sustainability through digitalization.
Prizes are awarded to projects and organizations in six categories of the competition:
- Best OZG or Registry Update Project
- Best project using innovative technologies and infrastructure
- Best Digitization Project in Federal, State and Local Government
- Best Agile Transformation Project
- Best Collaborative Project
- Best Project “Sustainability through Digitalization”

About the e-government competition
The competition for modernization and digitization of public administration (e-government competition) has been a recognized standard for e-government and modernization activities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland for more than 20 years. It encourages innovation for administrative modernization and supports the authorities in effective user-oriented digitization. Digital innovations, their sustainable implementation, and social change are placing new demands on public enterprises and institutions. This area includes the use of the Internet of Things, the creation of robust and secure IT infrastructures as well as process changes, employee information or training, change management, and extensive collaboration to develop and adapt new business models.
