For the first time in Cooler Masters history, the manufacturer officially introduces six fully self-driving power distributors with the XG Platinum power supply chain. Previously, the company left the internal assembly to other experts, which has now changed. The XG Platinum and XG Plus Platinum series will be available in 650W, 750W and 850W capacities respectively.
After several hurdles, the first private power supply with an XG Gold rating and therefore an 80 Plus Gold certification was considered. But in the end, it was clear that Cooler Master was able to increase the efficiency, which in the end was enough for an 80 Plus Platinum award. In addition, it was decided to sell two variants at the same time. On the one hand the XG Platinum and on the other hand the XG Plus Platinum power supplies. In addition to the 135mm ARGB fan, “plus” stands for semi-digital alignment including the ARGB LED display. Using the proprietary MasterPlus+ software, not only can the ARGB fan be controlled, but also its RPM and finally the information to be displayed on the ARGB LED screen.
But these are the only differences between the XG Platinum and XG Plus Platinum power supplies. There will be three wattage levels with 650 watts, 750 watts and 850 watts, so that interested parties can choose the optimal model depending on the configuration of the computer. All 6 PSUs are fully modular and of course come with all 6 important protection circuits that should not be missing in 2022. In general, Cooler Master is based on capacitors of Japanese origin. Unfortunately, the power supplies don’t come with the new PCIe 5.0 connector, but rather the usual PCIe 6+2 connectors.
The single rail of the important +12V power supply is also identical. The 650W models are 54.1A and 62.5A with 750W power supplies, and the 850W versions come to 70.8A and are suitable for the large caliber among current graphics cards, such as the GeForce RTX 3080 (Ti), RTX 3090 or Radeon RX 6900XT. Due to the high energy efficiency, the 135mm axial fan only starts at half load. Below that, the power supply operates semi-passively.
The three XG Platinum power supplies are listed by Cooler Master at MSRPs of €159.99, €169.99 and €179.99. On the other hand, if you opt for the XG Plus Platinum series, you will have to spend a little more money at €229.99, €239.99 and €249.99. In terms of availability, Cooler Master has stated that power sources will be available “soon,” which is of course a relative term. However, the Cooler Master can collect plus points with the warranty period, because this is ten years for the operation of the power supply itself.There is a warranty of up to three years for ARGB LEDs.
