Is green mold on the cake a reason to throw it away? Not so with moss cake, which makes it the perfect Halloween recipe.
Halloween is not far away. Already have all the snacks and recipes for the spooky party? If not, here’s a great idea: mousse cake. The classic cake comes from the East German era, and admittedly it looks a bit unusual: a white layer with green specks culminating on a chocolate base. Reminds of mold? But it tastes great! And precisely because of its appearance, moss cake is perfect for that Halloween-Schlemmerbüfett. Especially people who don’t know moss cake will be a little anxious to ask if this should really be the case and if you can eat cake. You can then explain to the skeptics: The green color is formed from the reaction between the chlorogenic acid in the sprinkled coffee powder and the protein in the top layer. So the cake is not moldy, it should look like this. You’ve baked a delicious and juicy moss cake in no time. Here’s the cake recipe.

- To prepare the dough Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Grease a springform pan with butter or line it with baking paper.
- Spread the mixture into the springform pan and smooth it out. Bake the chocolate base in the oven for about 25 minutes. Then let it cool.
- to cover Let the coconut fat melt over low heat and cool slightly. Beat egg whites with powdered sugar using a hand mixer. Then add the coconut oil slowly.
- Spread the cream on the base of the baked chocolate.
- For mold effect: Now use a strainer to sprinkle the coffee powder evenly and thinly over the cream.
- Leave the moss cake in a cool room (but not in the refrigerator!) overnight.
The next morning you can see how wonderful it is to spread “mold” on the cake. If you like it spooky or disgusting, you can put gummy worms or fondant worms on the cake. Enjoy baking and enjoy! (crazy)
