ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Cameron Dickey returned the first of linebacker Ben Roberts' two interceptions in the second half as No. 5 Texas Tech 2025 Edward Jones won the Big 12 football championship with a 34-7 victory over 11th-ranked BYU on Saturday.
The Red Raiders (12-1, No. 4 in the CFP) won their first Big 12 football title.
Behren Morton, who did not play in Tech's only loss to Arizona State, threw two TDs to Coy Eakin and Stone Harrington made four field goals for the Red Raiders.
The only loss is to the Red Raiders by BYU (11-2, No. 11 CFP).
Roberts, one of the holdovers on Tech's defense along with fellow linebacker Jacob Rodriguez (13 tackles), got his first interception with about 3 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter when he reached and deflected a pass from true freshman Bear Bachmeier.On the next play, Dickey took a direct snap and ran 11 yards intact for a touchdown and a 21-7 lead after making the 2-point conversion.
Harrington, who kicked five field goals last month, missed a 49-yard field goal
But between Roberts becoming the first player with multiple turnovers in one of 24 Big 12 championship games, transfer Romelu Hight recovered as Bachmeier fumbled for the sack.Harrington then made 44 yards.
Roberts almost had the current president after the intervention, but now the objection was returned to the ball in the fourth game.
Tech went ahead to stay after Aiken's incredible 33-yard TD catch with 10:42 left in the second quarter made it 10-7.He put both hands out for the ball, then put his feet down as he spun and dashed into the end zone.
