KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 5 — The Voice of the Hindu Rajab, a critical and gripping documentary about the final hours of the killing of a six-year-old Palestinian girl in Gaza, will be released in Malaysian cinemas on 8 January.
Local distributor Primeworks Studios has acquired the rights to screen the award-winning film across the country.
Directed by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouter Ben Hania, the docu-drama recounts the real-life tragedy of Hind Rajab, who was trapped in a car by Israeli forces on January 29, 2024.
The film uses a powerful hybrid format that includes actual 70-minute audio recordings of India's desperate calls to dispatchers from the Palestinian Red Crescent, while actors portray rescue workers racing against time to save him.
The film follows the volunteers who receive Hind's plea for rescue and their efforts to send an ambulance as they try to keep the terrified child on the line.
Actors Saja Kilani, Motaz Malhees, Amer Hlehel, and Clara Khoury portray the rescuers and rescuers in the reruns.
Since its premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, where it won the prestigious Grand Jury Prize, The Voice of Hind Rajab has become a global symbol of Palestinian suffering in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The film gained significant international recognition, including being selected as Tunisia's entry for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards and earning a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards.
The project also has the backing of Hollywood heavyweights Brad Pitt and Joaquin Phoenix, who signed on as executive producers to amplify the film's message.
According to an investigation by Al-Jazeera and independent NGOs, there were 335 bullet holes in Hindi and his family's car.
Their bodies were recovered 12 days after the incident.
