Apple has many plans to protect the iPhone Fold, reports say -

Early cell phones were notorious for damaging the internal screen.In fact, the original Samsung Galaxy Fold canceled pre-orders due to this problem.

A new supply chain report suggests Apple is taking two additional steps to protect the iPhone's foldable screen, as well as reduce the visibility of creases...

Samsung Galaxy Fold disaster

The original launch of the Galaxy Fold is certainly now a case study in industrial engineering classes.

A few days after the delivery of the first review units, the first problems with the device were reported.As more reports of display defects followed, Samsung delayed the launch for "at least" a month and sent back review units.Eventually, the company canceled all pre-orders because of the problem.

Ways to fix visible creases

One of the reasons Apple waited so long to launch the folding iPhone is said to be that the company was unhappy with the very visible reduction.The Cupertino company was reported to have rejected several samples provided by its display partner, Samsung, before its own designers were largely involved in solving the problem.

Apple engineers have been working closely with Samsung on the folding mechanism to protect the screen from damage.

Protect the display

Previous reports have suggested that Apple use new buttons to reduce the risk of lacerations on the flaps and fit a more robust protection.

Apple's first foldable device will feature self-healing glass, a smooth hinge design, and a dual-layer UTG/UFG glass architecture.In this configuration, the display panel is sandwiched between two layers of glass, rather than in direct contact with the hinge.Reliability will be better, and in theory folding control will also be better.

The abbreviations stand for ultra-thin glass and ultra-flexible glass respectively.
