Echo Auto also equips older cars and their radios with Bluetooth and voice control. The compact Echo can also be used as a receiver for your home stereo system.
Old cars usually don’t have a handsfree function for phone calls on the go, and you can’t easily play music from your smartphone on old vehicle radios. With Echo Auto, Amazon has developed a one-stop solution to these everyday problems in vehicles without smart electronics in the core equipment.
With the help of additional built-in AI hardware, which is hardly larger than a matchbox, phone calls and music streaming via Bluetooth are no longer a problem. Additionally, it can also be easily voice controlled via Amazon’s Alexa. An added bonus of in-flight comfort – and safety on the road.
Echo Auto also works with home stereo
But it’s not just old car radios that usually don’t have a wireless smartphone interface: even classic stereo systems, which perhaps bring the best sound into the living room, don’t usually have a matching connection option.
However, for such systems, the Echo Auto can be converted in no time at all. So you can transfer music and audiobooks from your couch to your smartphone’s stereo system without connecting a cable – many modern portable devices no longer have a plug socket for audio cables anyway.
This is how you use Echo Auto as a Bluetooth receiver at home

To connect your Echo Auto to your stereo system, we recommend that you first replace the included 3.5mm AUX cable with a connection from the corresponding “mini jack” to the coaxial audio tightening plug, which you can find on its red and white markings. If the playback device also has an audio line, the original cable will suffice.

The Echo Auto (1) attaches to the narrow side of the included USB cable (2). You connect the other side (3) to the power supply via a USB power supply. The also included AUX jack (4) cable is ideally replaced on one side by a coaxial hermetic plug.

You can now connect the 3.5mm jack to your Echo Auto and place the cable’s tight side onto a stereo channel on the system.

The corresponding connections for the cinch cable can be found on the back of your stereo system. There is also a stereo channel mapping that you must select for playback.

Now all you have to do is connect the USB cable that powers the Echo Auto to the USB power adapter. Built-in power adapters, which charge the iPhone very slowly anyway, are ideal for this.

Once Echo Auto is connected to your smartphone, you can now use it as you normally would while driving – for example, control your Spotify playlist with your Apple Watch. If you don’t hear any sound through your stereo system speakers, even though everything is connected correctly, make sure you select the correct stereo channel on the system amplifier – channel labels always appear next to the mounting sockets.
In further instructions, we will show you how to turn your Windows PC into an Echo Show using the Alexa app.
