The Republican wants to abolish the Ministry of Education

Republicans regularly attempt to ban education about homosexuality and transgenderness in the United States. Now someone wants to go further.

Republican Lauren Boebert has called for the abolition of the US Department of Education. This is intended to ensure that the federal government stays entirely out of public schools, Newsweek reports.

Boebert, a member of the House of Representatives, proposed two amendments to the existing Parental Rights Act to the chamber, and both were approved. Schools are required to notify parents when trans women participate in women’s sports or access women’s restrooms, which are common talking points among anti-trans people.

During the debate, the Republican suggested going further and “abolishing the Department of Education and removing the federal government from public schools entirely,” Newsweek reports.

The Parents’ Rights Act is a Republican-backed bill that requires schools to publish their curriculum and provide parents with lists of books in the school library.
