Washington State seeks preparedness unit manager

The Washington State Emergency Management Division is seeking to hire a preparedness unit manager at its Lakewood office, a recent job-opening post said.

This position works under the director of the Emergency Management Division (EMD) and is responsible for the preparation and implementation of preparedness measures to support the EMD and local and state emergency personnel. This position is also responsible for the implementation of programs that fall under Radiological, Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security grant programs.

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree and at least five years of management or leadership experience, as well as a professional level of experience within emergency management, training, education or financial management. They should also have experience in at least three of the following areas: emergency management supervisory experience, plan-development skills for an organization of at least 50 people, the ability to monitor grants for multiple governmental entities, experience conducting staff training, experience developing and evaluating budgetary items, project management skills, analytical skills, and experience conducting mutual aid and monitoring contractors and their performance.

The selected candidate must be able to pass a background investigation and obtain a Washington state driver's license.

Desired qualifications and experience areas include: policy analysis and formulation, principles of middle- to senior-level management and coordination, fund allocation and budgeting, principles of emergency management, and familiarity with national and state disaster and emergency-response programs and protocols.
