Dallas Mavericks (27-20) – Memphis Grizzlies (32-17) 104: 91 (boxcore)
With the win, Mavericks secured a tiebreaker against Memphis (3-1) and reduced the Grizzlies’ lead to 4 games. This was re-guaranteed by the defense, which kicked Grizzlies off the field at just 37 percent. The three-pointer, on the other hand, fell again moderately (9/30), but the Texans hit efficiently from the two-pointer.
This also applies to Luka Doncic, who decided himself again (slightly below) with 37 points (13/25 FG, 9/12 FT, 11 rebounds, 9 assists). The Slovenian was wearing a bandage around his neck after the injury against the Suns, but that did not affect the All-Star further. The 22-year-old broke Chris Lees’ defense and showed excellent contact on his floats.
He also had the support of John Brunson (13), Maxie Klepper (7, 3 rebounds, 3 blocks) and Christophe Borgingis (15, 6/11, 8 rebounds) who blocked 6 throws and hardened several shots for Grizzlies. . 6 minutes before the end, Steven Adams was fouled while fighting for a Latvian rebound. But Dallas rocked it home with so much confidence.
With Dhillon Brooks, Desmond Payne or Kyle Anderson on the other hand, Chris Lees has no major support. So, it’s very bitter that Johnson Jackson Jr. (10, 4/17) again had a tough time against the Maws defense. Otherwise, only backup card D’Anthony Melton (12) scored a double.
Memphis was even close to being in the game because of their strength under the basket. Guests caught 21 offensive rebounds (Dallas: 9) yet Chris Lees had not taken a single second lead in the game. The Mavs have maintained a consistent double-digit presence over the past three quarters and overcame it to the end.
ChrisLice, on the other hand, reached just 17 percent (4/24) from downtown, not drowning in more than one attempt. Dallas finished their own series 4-1, now facing two tough games at the Golden State Warriors and the Portland Trail Blazers. Grlzzlies stayed third in the West and will not be back in action until Thursday night in San Antonio.
