Norma: Groundbreaking ceremony for a state-of-the-art refrigerated and frozen logistics center / Up to 220 Dettingen branches could be made available in the future

Nuremberg / Dettingen an der Iller (ots)

By setting up a completely new refrigerated logistics center at the Baden-Württemberg Norma branch in Dettingen, the food retailer Nuremberg is investing even more in its logistics infrastructure. Expanding Dettingen’s logistical capacity became necessary due to the opponent’s dynamic growth. By investing, NORMA underlines its expansion strategy on the one hand and its commitment to the site conveniently located on the borders of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg on the other. The branch opened in 1991 currently supplies 116 branches between Constance and Kreilsheim. In the future, up to 220 branches can be provided by expanding the logistics center.

In the presence of NORMA CEO, Gerd Cooper, and other representatives of NORMA management, implementing companies and politics, construction work festively commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony.

The latest technology is used in construction at Dettingen. As in all Norma branches and associated logistics centres, great importance is attached to the sustainable, energy-saving and economically efficient design of all building components in the new deep freeze and refrigeration distribution center with its four ultra-modern docking stations. The construction of the new cold store creates a modern logistics site with competitive functions and contributes significantly to regional supply and more sustainability.

At the ceremony, Branch Manager Mirco Schramier detailed to guests from politics and the media that the entire cooling technology for a total floor area of 4,990 square meters is operated exclusively with natural and environmentally friendly refrigerant gas. Highly effective insulating panels ensure maximum energy efficiency. The roof area will be equipped with a powerful photovoltaic system of more than 650 kW in order to cover a large part of the electricity consumption with solar energy. The additional cooling capacity will more than double to 2,992 square metres, and the special fresh meat cooling area will grow to 479 square metres. Deep freeze logistics previously carried out by the service provider with room temperature below 24 degrees will be handled in the future on the 1,479 square meter site. This makes your logistics more efficient and can save more than 300,000 kilometers of driving distance each year. For employees, electronic charging stations are created for the environmentally friendly charging of their vehicles with self-generated electricity.

Norma is also counting on partners from the region to build a logistics hub. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in a 7-month construction period and start operating in early 2023. A total investment of nearly double digits is nearly double millions. With the new building, further expansion can be ensured and flexible supply to the branch network can be ensured. With the operation of the new Logistics Cooling Center, approximately 15 additional jobs will be created on site.

Norma continues to expand

As part of NORMA’s expansion cycle, the Dettingen Refrigeration and Freezing Center is already the 10th new building built by the trading company, which is active across Europe in Germany, France, the Czech Republic and recently Austria. The branches were completely rebuilt in Erfurt, Fürth, Magdeburg, Ischach, Rheinbüllen and Damerstorff near Rostock as well as in Sarburg, France; A refrigerated logistics center has been established in Regenstauf and Rossau.
