Ford Mach-Eau: The smell of gasoline for e-car lovers who stick to the combustion engine

The question of whether Ford is serious about Ford Mach-Eau is debatable. Even if the idea seems perfectly understandable. In collaboration with perfumers, a luxurious fragrance has been created for those who crave the all-electric performance of the new Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and still don’t quite miss the typical scent of traditional petrol stoves.

The decisive factor in this was the result of the survey, which showed that about 20 percent of those questioned would lose the smell of gasoline more than others if they switched to an electric car. Additionally, 70 percent of those questioned said they would lose the smell of gasoline at least to some extent. The perception of gasoline was almost on par with the smell of new books on the scale of popularity.

Our survey results show that the sensory privacy of petrol cars is something some drivers don’t want to do without. The scent of Mach Eau is said to give them a touch of the smell of fuel they still crave. It should last long enough for the GT’s performance to dispel all other doubts.” – Jay Ward, Ford Director of Europe Product Communications

Rather than just smelling gasoline, Mach-Eau delights the nose with its subtle complexity, Ford suggests. Mach-Eau is a refined fragrance that contains, among other things, smoky notes, hints of rubber, and even an “animal” element as a nod to Mustang’s heritage. The fragrance was recently unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, an annual event in the UK that attracts car enthusiasts from all over the world. The fragrance, which is not for sale, is part of Ford’s ongoing mission to dispel pervasive prejudice against electric cars and convince traditional car enthusiasts of the potential of electric cars.

To create the fragrance, the car manufacturer indicated the following: Mach-Eau was created by the famous perfume company Olfiction with ingredients that each represent particular elements of the history of perfume. Pia Long of the British Fragrance Association, who has worked with some of the most famous perfume brands, played an integral role in creating the fragrance. The starting point was the study of materials Chemical emitted from car interiors, engines and gasoline. These included the smell of benzaldehyde, an almond-like smell emanating from car interiors, and paracresol, which is responsible for the smell of rubber tires. In addition, there were ingredients such as blue ginger, lavender, geranium, and sandalwood, which impart Metallic, smoke and rubber accents. Animal scent elements have also been added to emphasize the Ford Mustang’s legacy and convey the impression of horses.”
