Hakuho, the most successful sumo wrestler in history, resigns. The 36-year-old Mughal has ended his career due to persistent knee issues.

“I learned from the president of the Sumo Federation that Hakuho’s resignation was submitted today by his stable master,” said Hironori Yano, Chairman of the Yokozuna Advisory Board. After Hakuho’s resignation, there is only one wrestler left in the yokozuna class, the highest ranked sumo game.

After 1187 victories it’s over

Hakuho, a Japanese national since 2019, has won 45 trophies in his football career – 13 more than anyone before him. This year he was unable to participate in competitions due to injury and only participated in the Nagoya Grand Sumo Championship in July, which he won. The exceptional athlete achieved 1,187 victories.

The Japan Sumo Association has yet to comment on the resignation. However, news of Hakuhou’s retirement made headlines in the country.
