Fugate appoints National Advisory Council members

Craig Fugate, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), finalized the appointments of the 10-member National Advisory Council (NAC) on Friday.

This council is largely responsible for providing information and recommendations relating to issues in various areas of the emergency management field, which can include the addressing of gaps in capacity or in training areas.

“The National Advisory Council plays a key role to ensure effective and ongoing coordination of federal preparedness, protection, response, recovery and mitigation for natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made disasters,” Fugate said. “The members advise FEMA on all aspects of our mission. I appreciate their dedication and commitment to ensuring effective emergency management.”

The council aims to represent the entire community within emergency management and response activity. In this round of applications, approximately 140 submissions were received by FEMA.

New members include Peter Barca of the Wisconsin State Assembly; Catherine Nelson of Intel Corp.; Michaels Sprayberry, director of North Carolina Emergency Management office within the Department of Public Safety; Darryl Wong, Hawaii State adjunct general from the Hawaii Department of Defense; and William Bailey, investigations commander with the Tulsa Police Department. Alongside these appointments, five current council members were also reappointed.

All appointments to the NAC last for three years.
