Cook County seeks emergency training, exercise coordinator

Cook County, Illinois, said late last week that it is looking for a training and exercise coordinator who would work within the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM).

This position will work with Cook County agencies to ensure they are meeting the needs and priorities of areas related to DHSEM and will focus on training under the National Incident Management System.

This position also is responsible for the supervision, coordination, planning and conducting of large-scale training exercises that will involve multiple entities and jurisdictions. This position requires the ability to be a supervisor to other staff members inside and outside of the department.

This position requires a bachelor's degree with three years of full-time work experience or three years of military service with an honorable discharge. Experience should be within emergency management, medical services, law enforcement or other related areas.

Candidates should have at least two years of instruction or training experience. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, candidates may also be qualified if they hold a high school diploma or GED with seven years of appropriate work and/or military experience. Preference will be given to veterans who have been honorably discharged.

Candidates should provide evidence of their knowledge relating to regulatory requirements for grant funded training and should be skilled in planning, coordinating and executing large-scale exercises that involve multiple groups and agencies.
