FEMA seeks emergency management specialist in K.C.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is looking to hire an emergency management specialist for its Kansas City, Missouri, office, a listing posted on Tuesday said.

This is a temporary position scheduled to last no longer than two years.

This position is responsible for analyzing staffing needs and implementing staffing contingency plans, ensuring regulations and policies for emergency response are supported by proper analysis, coordinating positions with program managers, and obtaining FQS documents and tracking their progress through FQS career paths commiserate with regional disaster needs.

Basic requirements for this position include U.S. citizenship, selective-service registration for male applicants and the ability to pass a background investigation. Candidates must have held a position that is equivalent to a GS-9 grade level for one year, which includes experience in a position that assisted the management of disaster resources using federal emergency-management policies and analysis, as well as evaluation of disaster-response methodologies.

A doctoral degree or up to three years of graduate-level education on a progressive basis, including progress toward an LL.M. or other professional degree, will meet the work-experience requirement. Combinations of experience and education will also be taken in consideration.
