Emergent BioSolutions, Inc., named biotechnology firm of the year

Emergent BioSolutions, Inc., was honored as the Biotechnology Firm of the Year by the Tech Council of Maryland at its Annual Tech Awards held last week.

The award is given each year to a biotechnology firm that  “exemplifies the spirit of Maryland's biotechnology community as well as its presence and leadership within the state."

“It is an honor to represent Emergent BioSolutions, a company composed of talented and hardworking individuals committed to the corporate mission of protecting life,” Fuad El-Hibri, Emergent BioSolutions, Inc.'s chairman and CEO, said.

This year’s Annual Tech Awards focused on rapid growth within the technology field.

“The theme, 'Building Something Great Together,' is meaningful because Emergent's success is built on teamwork and collaboration,” El-Hibri said. “It also acknowledges the role that businesses play in contributing to the State's economic and job growth. Emergent is proud to be amongst the technology and life sciences companies that have chosen Maryland as its home.”

Criteria for the award include achieving measurable success, helping promulgate a thriving biotechnology community and advancement through the use of state-of-the art research and development.

Emergent BioSolutions is the only biopharmaceutical company to have an anthrax vaccine, BioThrax, to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, officials said.
