Midwest Research Institute given CBRNE contract

The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded Midwest Research Institute with a contract to provide chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive support services for the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center and other defense customers.

"Federal agencies have entrusted Midwest Research Institute to provide CBRNE expertise since our founding in 1944," Michael F. Helmstetter, Ph.D., MRI president and CEO, said. "MRI is honored to assist the nation in protecting human lives and guarding our country against attack."

The contract, made with the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, will see MRI provide support for the ECBC and other defense customers with CBRNE support services at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

MRI holds a large number of facilities and resources to aid in the support of engineering, fabrication, testing and laboratory programs through a five-year Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity Omnibus contract. MRI, through this contract, will provide project management, research, development, acquisition and sustainment services.

"This contract is a reflection of the tremendous growth underway at MRI," Helmstetter said. "An award such as this demonstrates that our sixty-six year track record of proven results, and our state-of-the art skills and technologies, have become invaluable in the defense industry."

The contract for MRI comes as part of multiple awards made by the Department of Defense worth an aggregate of $485 million.
