FEMA seeks lead emergency management specialist

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is looking to hire a lead emergency management specialist at its Philadelphia office, a job listing posted on Friday said.

Basic requirements include U.S. citizenship and the ability to pass a background check. Selective Service registration also must be completed if the applicant is male.

This position is expected to provide technical assistance and support for state and local government officials in emergency-preparedness protocols and technology. This person also will convey policy decisions that occur between the agency and emergency management agencies in states and localities. The person also will share this information with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other pertinent agencies.

This person also will be expected to write and implement regional policy and regulations, as well as interpret existing regulations and coordinate educational materials for emergency management personnel and the general public.

This is a GS-13 position, and candidates should have at least one year of experience at the GS-12 level of government employment or the equivalent from the private sector or from volunteer organizations, including the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps.

Experience should be related to emergency-response plan development, specifically in regard to nuclear power plants and off-site applications. This position is also eligible to those with applicable military experience and those under the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program.
