Jeffrey Walker recently became the disaster coordinator for the West Ohio Conference of United Methodist Church.

Walker has over 14 years of experience in emergency management  and currently serves as the director emeritus of the Licking County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. In January 2013, after he retired from the Licking County post, he became the district coordinator for the Capitol Area South District for Disaster Response.

Walker is also a member and lay leader at Newark First United Methodist Church.

“After spending 14 years as a director of emergency management, serving as the national president of the International Association of Emergency Managers, and serving on the National Advisory Council to the director of FEMA, I realized that God had prepared me for this mission,” Walker said. “When I was asked to assume this responsibility, I felt it was God’s call, and I agreed to accept His calling.”

Walker served 38 years in law enforcement after graduating from Franklin University with a degree in business administration. He was a reserve police officer, reserve deputy sheriff and a full-time detective at the Newark Police Department. He expects his law enforcement background will help in his new role.

“This experience, along with being a certified lay minister and my training and experience in emergency management, will make me able to successfully guide and strengthen the conference's efforts to support the needs of survivors of disasters,” Walker said.
