The Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is seeking presenters for the seventh annual Maine Partners in Emergency Preparedness Conference, which will be held April 21-22, 2015.
The conference allows emergency responders to both share their expertise and to glean knowledge from others in how to best prepare the state for any possible emergencies.
This year's conference presentations included best practices for safety in schools, utilizing social media platforms to connect with the community, creating an emergency kit and better ways of evacuating a hospital. Other workshops were area-specific such as the updating of hurricane inundation maps.
In previous years, the conference included presentations on hurricane and tropical storm preparedness, historical flooding maps, and what to do in the case of an active assailant in a school or workplace.
Presentations must be 60 to 90 minutes long, and should address at least one of the following categories: technological hazards; schools; businesses or non-profit organizations; communities including public officials, administrators, and leaders of libraries and cultural insitutions; emergency management; or health care.
Co-hosted by MEMA, the State Emergency Response Commission and the Maine Association for Local Emergency Managers, the 2015 conference will take place at the Augusta Civic Center.
Registration for presenters opens on Dec. 5. General attendees can register starting on Jan. 23, 2015.
