The Happy Family: Shortly before their fiftieth birthday celebrations, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit gather their strength again on a family holiday together. The two, with their children Ingrid Alexandra and Sverre Magnus, are sailing on the royal yacht “Norge” along the Norwegian coast.
Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit: vacation with the royal family
The royal family posted a series of summer snaps on Instagram. “The crown prince’s family wishes you a nice summer,” reads the caption on family photos that show the four on a beach holiday in Sur-Varanger.
The crown prince’s family always spends the summer at home, preferably at sea or on the island of Dvergsøya in Kristiansand. Haakon and Mette-Marit rented “Villa Vogts” there almost every year, right by the sea. Traditional summer photography is also usually invited here.

In this year’s photos, the Norwegian royal family is casually showing themselves in summer casual attire — perfectly color-coordinated in white and shades of blue. If you take a look at the commentary column, you’ll notice that one family member is particularly getting the attention of royal fans.
Sverre Magnus is hardly recognizable
“Safir Magnus has become a big boy,” one follower wrote under the new family photos. Another comment read: “Ambassador Magnus is a handsome young man.” Many even find that the 17-year-old prince is becoming more and more like his grandfather, King Harald.
Sverre Magnus is now on par with his father Haakon who is almost 1.90m tall. Already on Norway’s national holiday in May 2022, the prince surprised everyone with his height.
But that’s not the only thing that stands out: his glasses are gone, his hair is combed back from his face – the young royal is slowly leaving his teenage years behind. After the holidays, Sverre Magnus begins his final year at school.

Haakon of Norway celebrates his birthday on July 20, followed by his wife Mette-Marit on August 19. A statement from the royal family has already revealed how the double anniversary will be celebrated.
A birthday party was planned for August, announced by the court as “a backyard party at the castle”. For this, “guests from all over the country” were invited.
