BioFire Ebola test receives F&S product innovation award
F&S analyst Srinivas Sashidhar noted that the company and the U.S. Department of Defense collaborated on development of these diagnostic tools -- which are used in many U.S. hospitals -- on a proactive basis.
“The FilmArray Ebola test which is rapid and easy to use will certainly be a great help for the healthcare professionals in the context of the Ebola outbreak,” BioFire Defense CEO Kirk Ririe said. “Diagnostics are a powerful force in improving patient care and I am honored to see the efforts of our team recognized by Frost & Sullivan. I am particularly proud to be part of bioMérieux, whose development during more than 50 years has been driven by a pioneering spirit and unrelenting commitment to improve public health worldwide, backed by an extensive geographic footprint.”
The company states that the test is capable of producing results within an hour of receiving patient samples, a significant reduction in the diagnostic timing of other forms of testing for the virus.
The F&S award recognizes products that showcase strong performance in their respective markets.
