BOLZANO – The Hepatitis C prevention campaign in South Tyrol started in February with advocacy letters and is progressing rapidly.
As of yesterday, April 11, 2023, 16,620 people born between 1969 and 1989 have already had a hepatitis C test as part of the South Tyrolean Health prevention campaign.
This figure shows that the initiative is important and has been so well received by the population that other show days have been scheduled for Friday 14th and Saturday 15th April. You can make a reservation over the phone using the standard 100 100 reservation number, preceded by your area code, or online through the SaniBook website.
“We are very happy that the people of South Tyrol are willing to take the tests,” says Elke Maria Earn, head of the infectious diseases department at Bolzano Hospital and in charge of the prevention programme. And we repeat it over and over again: every case caught in time means a break in the chain of infection. Above all, this means protecting a person from a dangerous disease such as cirrhosis or liver cancer, with all the negative effects on their quality of life. With the help of medicines, hepatitis C can be treated Hepatitis C completely in 98 percent of cases. So I invite you to take part in the next show days if you haven’t already. A simple and quick test is enough to make sure you have never been exposed to the virus. In addition, it also means reassuring the people we care about and who do not fall into the relevant age group for providing care.”
