Fitbit Pay to be Replaced by Google Wallet on Smartwatches and Trackers
Fitbit users will soon see a change in how they make contactless payments on their smartwatches and trackers. The popular fitness brand announced that starting in July, Fitbit Pay will be replaced by Google Wallet.
NFC payment support was first introduced by Fitbit back in 2018, allowing users to make purchases with just a tap of their device. However, Fitbit Pay will no longer be available starting July 29, 2024, except in Japan, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia.
The transition to Google Wallet will bring more options for users, including the ability to add more banks and cards for contactless payments. Google Wallet will debut on the Charge 6 model, offering a seamless payment experience for Fitbit users.
To set up Google Wallet on their devices, users will need to have version 4.14.1 or higher of the Fitbit companion app. While American Express cards cannot be added to Google Wallet for Fitbit at the moment, Google has assured users that this feature will be available soon.
Overall, the shift from Fitbit Pay to Google Wallet is aimed at providing a more streamlined and convenient payment experience for Fitbit users. Stay tuned for more updates as the transition rolls out in the coming months.
