Adobe announced its plans to launch an AI image generation tool in Photoshop by 2024, allowing users to create images from text similar to DALL-E and Stable Diffusion. The tool is part of Adobe’s efforts to compete with Microsoft-backed OpenAI, Stability AI, and other AI startups in the industry.
During a recent conference in London, the company unveiled the beta version of the full image generation software. However, it is worth noting that the software is not intended for generating photorealistic depictions of real or historical events.
To avoid copyright infringement, Adobe’s commercial image-generating software is trained on data owned by the company. The new release is designed to streamline workflow for creative professionals, who can upload images as references for generating new compositions.
Firefly, the software behind the new AI image generation tool, has already stirred up controversy with its creations of unconventional images such as black Nazis and female founding fathers back in March. Despite this, Firefly has already generated over 7 billion images since its launch, contributing to a 30% year-over-year growth in users for Photoshop.
While Adobe did not provide a specific release date for the general availability of the AI image generation tool in 2024, the company’s latest innovation is set to revolutionize the way creative professionals work with image generation and editing software.
