Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer Volkswagen is offering electric cars in a so-called subscription model. “There is an increasing number of people who do not necessarily own a car permanently, but who want to use it exclusively for a specific period of time,” said Sales Director Klaus Zelmer. For this, VW has developed an offer between leasing and sharing, according to its own information: customers can rent cars for three to six months and then renew them monthly.

Initially from 2000 to 3000 used cars

She said 2,000 to 3,000 used cars of the all-electric ID.3 and ID.4 models are available for the Volkswagen Auto Abo. VW sees the subscription as another step towards digitizing sales and building new business models. Zelmer estimated that by 2030, a fifth of sales could be accounted for through subscriptions and other mobility offerings.
