United Kingdom: Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab resigns – Politics

UK Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Dominic Raab has resigned over allegations of bullying. He was responding to the findings of an investigative report on his conduct as a minister. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak ordered the investigation after allegations by former RAP employees became known.

In a resignation letter posted to Twitter on Friday, Raab confirmed that he accepts the report’s findings, but continues to dismiss allegations of bullying. The report was handed over to Sunak on Thursday, but the content was initially unknown.

Of several allegations, Raab wrote, only two have been identified as justified. However, the evaluator found that “not once in four and a half years have I insulted or shouted at anyone, thrown things or physically intimidated or intentionally humiliated anyone,” Raab said.

Raab did not say which allegations were confirmed. But he believes the decision was wrong. He also writes that defining bullying at such a low threshold sets a dangerous precedent. But he apologizes for “any unintended pressure” he brought to the Justice Department “through speed, standards, or challenges.”

Raab is the third senior member of the Senak government to resign over his personal behaviour. Sunak has been in office since October. Raab requested an investigation in November after complaints against him became known. Sunak then appointed a lawyer to independently review the allegations.
