Foot injury: Nadal cancels Toronto start

Rafael Nadal canceled his participation in the ATP 1000 Championships in Toronto at short notice. The 35-year-old Mallorcan retired due to an injury to his left foot. “I really wanted to play here, but now is the time to make a decision, and unfortunately that’s the decision I made,” Nadal said. After a first-round bye, Mallorcan was supposed to play Lloyd Harris. Upon his return after a two-month hiatus from the tournament, Nadal last lost in Washington, D.C. in the round of 16 to South Africa.
