The World Health Organization (WHO) reported Monday that it has been notified by the National IHR Focal Point of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) of more than 150 cases of yellow fever since the beginning of the year.
The cases are believed to be connected to an outbreak underway in neighboring Angola. Of the 151 reported cases, 21 people have died. The cases have been reported in Bas-Uele, Equateur, Kasai Central and Tshuapa provinces.
WHO officials said they are continuing to investigate the spread of the outbreak and advised against traveling to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the meantime.
