Dieter Rothbacher, director of operations for Hotzone Solutions, recently served as chairman for an international workshop on chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives (CBRNe) response.

The workshop was held in Italy on Friday, Nov. 20.

The workshop, titled “CBRNe: New Technologies, New Strategies, New Approaches to Reduce the Risk,” focused on several topics including what countries in Europe are doing to facilitate response against threats of terror, the possibilities of chemical agent use and novel counter-CBRNe technology.

Discussion centered around what the global medical and biological fields could offer in terms of support to CBRNe response and the impact of the current geopolitical situation on the development of non-conventional weapons. Research and training was also discussed among participants.

The workshop took place at the University of Tor Vergata located in Villa Mondragone, Italy. Approximately 200 officials were in attendance, including civil and military personnel and representatives from the European Commission, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and NATO.

In addition to chairing the workshop, Rothbacher presented experiences relating to CBRNe missions and field operations.

Hotzone Solutions specializes in the development and delivery of CBRNe-related training courses to civil and military organizations.
