The Washington, D.C., Air National Guard announced on Tuesday that it has an opening for an emergency management specialist for current members.

This position is only available for those with the D.C. Air National Guard. The specialist is tasked with emergency response, training and logistics associated with emergency management; hazardous material management; and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) related activity. The person will be expected to take part in development, management and execution of emergency management programs, and ensuring that all personnel are trained and properly equipped.

A minimum rank of E-1/AB is required. Those above E-6/TSgt will not be considered for this position. Candidates are required to have at least one year of experience at the GS-07 level, including competencies in preparation and briefing of emergency management plans. Candidates should be knowledgeable in activations and deployments, and readiness status reports. They also should have competency in writing, designing, publishing, formatting and presenting emergency management-specific work to peers and supervisors.

Also required is knowledge of the characteristics and effects of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), as well as conventional and CBRN weapons. Candidates also should be experienced in the detection and identification of CBRN-related contamination.
