Cassilly tours Smiths Detection's Edgewood, Maryland, facility

Maryland state Sen. Bob Cassilly (R-Harford County) recently toured the Smiths Detection Inc. facility in Edgewood, Maryland.

“It is important to Smiths Detection Inc. to have an open dialogue and strong relationships with our community and its elected leaders," Dana Knox-Gower, director of communications and marketing for Smiths Detection, told Bio Prep Watch. "We welcome visitors like Sen. Cassilly to our facility so they may see first hand, and better understand, how our employees contribute to both the security of our country and our local economy.”

The facility is focused on military programs, advanced X-ray technologies, chemical and biological detection and sensor networks used by the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security and other U.S. government agencies.

During the visit, Cassilly spoke to employees of the company, saying continued growth in the fields of threat detection and identification technology is not only critical to the economies of Maryland and the U.S., but also to the world’s safety and security.

“Unlike the consumer market, we must help our customers prepare for the next threat, not the next craze." Knox-Grower said. "Having invested more than $450 million over the last 10 years in cutting-edge R&D, Smiths Detection Inc. will remain a leading provider of advanced technologies, striving to solve the most challenging and important problems that threaten our safety and security, today and in the future."
