Smiths Detection Inc. announced on Wednesday that Maryland State Sen. Bob Cassilly (R-34) recently toured their facility located in Edgewood, Maryland.

During his visit to the facility, Cassilly addressed employees of the company.

“Continued growth in the fields of threat detection and identification technology is not only critical to both the Maryland and U.S. economies; it is vital to the world’s safety and security,” Cassilly said. “Our state values companies like SDI, who use innovation and partnership with government and other customers to defend and protect us all.”

Cassilly served in the U.S. Army prior to his election to the state senate and was awarded the Bronze Star following his service in Iraq.

The Edgewood facility houses the design and manufacture of detection and identification solutions for the company’s U.S. clients which includes the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, first response and law enforcement agencies.

“It is important that we have an open dialogue and strong relationships with our community and its elected leaders,” Smiths Detection President Terry Gibson said. “We welcome them to our facility so they may see firsthand, and better understand, how our employees contribute to both the security of our country and our local economy.”
