Smiths Detection announced on Tuesday that they have launched the iCmore software suite for automatic detection of potential threats and contraband within cargo screening actions and applications.

“iCmore supports an important step change for our customers by offering a much greater degree of automation,” Shan Hood, vice president of product and technology, said. “It will make a major contribution to the fight against international terrorism and smuggling, by speeding up the inspection of an ever increasing volume of cross-border traffic.”

The announcement states that this software package will allow screening operators to expedite the process through efficiency-increasing measures. They state that operators will be able to enhance analysis capabilities and allow more concrete data relating to abnormalities that are found.

Currently, the system is configured to focus on radiation sources, cigarettes and recognition of containers that house items and materials. The company states that additions are planned to be able to detect inconsistencies within a specific cargo load. Likely additions will include the capability of automating detection for precious metals and other materials such as uranium.

Smiths Detection manufactures and designs detection and identification systems for military, government and civil operation on a global scale.
