Morpho Detection will supply 160 Itemiser 4DX explosives trace detectors (ETD) for airport checkpoints following a recent contract signing with the German Federal Police.

The 4DX systems do not utilize radiation in order to perform its explosive detection operations; instead, it uses ion trap mobility spectrometry (ITMS) and is able to detect and identify trace amounts of explosive material or remnants on clothing, skin, luggage and other surfaces. In addition, since it does not use radiation, the system is free of regulatory and administrative requirements of radiological based detectors.

"The German Federal Police helps secure air travel at some of the busiest airports in Europe, and we are thrilled they have recognized the operational and detection capabilities of Itemiser 4DX by selecting it to protect travelers," Karen Bomba, president and CEO of Morpho Detection, said. "The ability of Itemiser 4DX to non-invasively detect and identify explosives in challenging environments, combined with Morpho's global service partnerships, helps airports increase return on investment while planning for growth and evolving security mandates."

The system is approved for cargo and passenger screening in all 44 member states of the European Civil Aviation Conference and approximately 850 units are currently in use at European airports.
