FEMA announces two open positions
The specialist position is located at the Philadelphia office. It is tasked with delivering preparedness programs on a regional basis. Work under this position may include designing and developing regional emergency response plans and evaluating these plans from state and local governments. This position may also be asked to provide technical assistance and other information to state and local officials relating to development of site-specific preparedness plans and procedures.
Qualifications for this position include a master's degree or equivalent level of graduate level education for GS-09 grade and for the GS-11 grade a doctorate or equivalent is required. Experience in national services combined with education will also be considered eligible qualifications.
This position closes on Oct. 12 or when 200 applications have been submitted.
There are vacancies nationwide for disaster survivor assistance (DSA) specialists and location is negotiable upon being selected. This is a temporary position that will not exceed two years.
This position will carry out five key aspects including performing survivor needs assessments and surveys, registration of individual survivors into the National Emergency Management Information System (NEMIS) , providing individuals with referrals in order to meet their needs, and will also be asked to perform visual assessments of the area in the case of a disaster events.
Candidates should possess basic knowledge of FEMA's Disaster Assistance Program and should be proficient in mobile technologies including GPS and smartphones. Candidates will also need intermediate computer skills with proficiency with Microsoft Office products and internet browsers.
