Smiths Detection announced the launch of a new compact scanner, the HI-SCAN 6040C, on Monday.
According to the company, the compact design of the scanner allows it to be incorporated into most security scanning areas and entrances into buildings. The system uses X-ray images, so operators are able to determine organic and inorganic materials housed in any bags that are processed.
"Security incidents in public buildings around the world demonstrate how vulnerable our society can be," Smiths Detection Vice President of Product and Technology Shan Hood said. "Our new HI-SCAN 6040C X-ray inspection system is tailored to the security needs of buildings where large numbers of people come and go every day. The upgraded electronics and software ensure that it is prepared for both current and future security requirements."
The company also notes that the system is easily upgraded as new technology is developed. It also functions well in tandem with other equipment and systems from Smiths Detection. The company states that it is approved to perform scanning operations for packages and hand bags to determine the presence of explosives, as well as on weapons, narcotics and other illegal items.
Smiths Detection specializes in detection technologies for both civil and military applications globally. Other offerings of the company include detection and identification equipment tailored for chemical and biological agents, weapons, explosives, radiological and nuclear material and other forms of contraband.
