Morpho Detection said Thursday it has received a contract from Birmingham Airport, Ltd. in England the to supply and service 4DX explosives trace detectors.
The 4DX systems utilize Ion Trap Mobility Spectrometers (ITMS) to detect trace amounts of explosive material on skin, clothing and luggage material. Because this process does not involve radiation, the system is not burdened with administration, regulatory and specialized storage requirements and costs.

"Working with growing airports to meet evolving security challenges and regulatory mandates is at the core of Morpho's commitment for more than 20 years," Morpho Detection President and CEO Karen Bomba said. "The detection and operational capabilities of Itemiser 4DX, combined with Morpho's rapid-response global service teams, helps airport operators and security directors achieve the highest levels of system uptime and performance."

Morpho Detection specializes in detection systems for narcotics, explosives and threats that are chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) in nature. Their systems serve transportation security, government, military and first response applications alongside other areas considered to have high-risks of these kinds associated with them.
The 4DX system has been approved for commercial and passenger screening by the U.K. Department for Transport and the European Civil Aviation Conference's member nations.
