Morpho Detection lands contract with Manchester Airports Group

Morpho Detection has been awarded a contract with U.K. airport operator Manchester Airports Group PLC (MAG) to supply 44 units of their Itemiser 4DX explosives trace detectors (ETD), it announced Thursday.

"Building on 15 years of Itemiser systems screening passengers and baggage at the world's busiest aviation hubs, Itemiser 4DX helps airports enhance security and operational capabilities while reducing false alarms," Morpho Detection President and CEO Karen Bomba said. "Morpho's field-proven track record of delivering, servicing and supporting ETD systems around the world has created an unmatched, reliable end-to-end solution. We look forward to supporting MAG as they work to meet their growing passenger and security demands."

The company's system was selected to replace the group's existing detection system. It's capable of detecting trace amounts of materials that are associated with explosives on an individual's skin, clothing, vehicles and luggage, among other surfaces. The 4DX uses nonradioactive Ion Trap Mobility Spectrometer technology, allowing it to have increased mobility and eliminates regulatory requirements of systems that use radiation technology.

Morpho Itemiser systems are used in airports throughout Europe. The system has been approved by the U.K. Department for Transport in both passenger and cargo screening applications and has been approved by the European Civil Aviation Conference's 44 member countries.
