PositiveID Corp. announced on Monday that they have been selected to present information on their Firefly Dx device at the 2015 Military Health System Research Symposium, which is to take place Aug. 17 to 20.

The Firefly Dx is a handheld polymerase chain reaction (PCR) diagnostic device that has shown to be an effective alternative to laboratory testing in its clinical tests. The company states that it is able to detect a variety of pathogens within 20 minutes.

IT was developed in order to serve point of care diagnostic needs specifically in remote areas where traditional laboratory testing would be cumbersome or impossible to complete.

The symposium serves as one of the top meetings for scientists and representatives from the U.S. Armed Forces and the Department of Defense. It is taking place at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort located in Fort
Lauderdale, Florida. The corporation will be located at booth 50 during this symposium.

The device utilizes cartridge based assays and combining the cartridges and the applicable samples and it is capable of detecting multiple defined pathogens of interest. The company also states that the device could also be used in order to detect and identify contamination and other impurities within the food production and
agricultural sectors.
